IMPROVING THE BEACH.

NOA.MOTU SOCIETY ACTIVE. A meeting of the Ngamotu Foreshore Improvement Society was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs J. Harden (chairman), J. Iloneyfield, Small-bone, Xixon, Roberts, Deare, and R. Ellis. After some, discussion it wa.-i decided to recommend the Harbor Board to limit the frontage of the summer wharcs to -•lit., and to fix the minimum cost at C.*j. .Members alsu proposed to limit the maximum cost of the whares, but this suggestion was negatived. The chairman suggested that the Railway Department lie approached to stop the trains near the end of the Pioneer roail,—Mr. J)earo pointed out that, the trams would benefit the foreshore as much as the, trains.—.Members considered that the stopping- of the trains was an important matter, and it was agreed that the Department lie communicated with to ascertain their requirements in order that arrangements might be made to stop trains near the end ol Pioneer road. It was decided to apply to the Borough Council for the society's quota ol the grant of trees for seaside planting. The chairman suggested that the holiday on Thursday of next week, the King's Birthday, be taken advantage of to -plant a number of trees along the foreshore, but it was pointed out that a quantity of fencing was more necessary, as otherwise any tree.* planted would probably be damage:!. After some further discussion it was decided to organise a working bee to erect fencing along the foreshore from Pioneer road to Kailey road on dune 3, in order to place this land in readiness for tree planting in the near future. It was also decided to apply to the Harbor Board for a grant in aid of the fencing work, to provide the necessary materials. In connection with the question of tree-planting it was decided to place any trees .secured from the Borough Council in a together with any other young trees that could (be secured, but to plant any acacias or other quickgrowing varieties as s#on as opportunity oll'ered.
