VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL By Telegraph.—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. The following have been elected members of the Victoria University College Council:—Elected by the District Court of Convocation: Hon. A. L. Herdman, Messrs W. 11. Morton and Clement Watson ; elected by secondary schools governing bodies: Hon. J. G. W. Aitkcii; elected by secondary and technical school teachers: Mr. W. S. La Trobe. GAS POISONING. Wellington, May 21. A resident of Salamanca Koad, named Kennedy, was found suffering seriously from gas poisoning this morning. He is still unconscious, SMUGGLING OPIUM. Napier, May 2G\ Two Chinese members of the crew of the Cape Finisterre, from Philadelphia, Yong Fu and Ah Lai, appeared at the Police Court to-day charged with smuggling opium and were remanded till Monday. The accused were arrested! on the wharf last night, when they had in their possession fifteen tins of opium, valued at about £7O. The drug is of a very fine quality.
