I'ROIXX'ERS' MEAT FREEZING WORKS. From the first conception of the movement for the formation of a company having for its object the establishment of meat freezing works owned by the producers, we have been confident that the enterprising spirit of Taranaki farmer's would sec the scheme brought to fruition. There have been delays in arriving at the first actual step towards launching the project, so that it is all the more gratifying to know that at last there is a. sufficiency of financial support to justify the promoters in proceeding to allotment of shares. Very Wisely it was decided that no shares would be allotted until the number subscribed for reached a minimum of SOOO, representing a value of £40,000. At a meeting of the provisional directors held yesterday, the pleasing news Was announced that the applications for shares had passed the minimum limit, and it was, of course, decided to at once proceed to allotment, 'and go ahead with the scheme. The farmers are to he congratulated on thus making it possible to reap the full benefit of their capital, labor and skill, instead of working hard for the middlemen. So far, the satisfactory result has been achieved without canvassing the townspeople, and the farmers are, therefore, entitled to the full credit of est;*»lishing an enterprise that should prove one of the most important factors in their future welfare. The freezing works will be of the greatest benefit to Taranaki, and will certainly add to the prosperity of the province. Those who have been devoting their time and service to bring about the establishment of these works, are.deserving, well of the whole community. To have accomplished tho placing of the required number of shares under such exceptionally adverse circumstances as prevail at the present time shows that Taranaki possesses men of determination and ability who are willing to make great sacrifices for the good of their fellows. This should be taken as a happy augury for the success of the enterprise, and should also imbue the farmers with the utmost confidence in the future. We heartily congratulate all concerned on the success which has attended their efforts. No time is to be lost in proceeding with tho arrangements that will lead up to the completion of the works, and add to the prosperity of the farmers.
