SUFFICIENT BUTTER.

NO MOHK TO 11K EXPORTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, .May 7. Mr. Massev informed a .Post reporter that he had just received a report from the l''ood Commission on the price of butter. The commission recommended that, while the present stocks with the quantity likc-lv to be produced in the next two months will be sullicicnt for our requirements, there will be a shortage if further exportation:? to any extent are allowed. The com mission is of opinion that further exportations to Australia should for the present be prohibited, except with the consent of the Government, and that such consent should be withheld unless the Government is satisfied that sufficient butter for the normal requirements of the Dominion is retained in the country.' Mr. Masscy added that, in accordance with the recommendation of the commission, the Government will retain control of the export of butter for the winter months, and will endeavor to see that sufficient is retained in New Zealand for our own requirements, and that a reasonable price is charged as compared with the price charged in other countries. lie also stated that information bad reached him that a shipment of some GOOO or 7000 boxes of butter was being returned from England to New Zealand, the consignees evidently realising that at the ruling price it would pay them better to send it back ihan to unload it in England. The real trouble, he' said, was the scarcity in Australia and the high price ; obtainable there. Besides that, many New Zealand factories, which formerly made butter were now making cheese, because it paid them better to do so. < The Imperial Government was asking for far more cheese for the use of the troops than New Zealand could supply.
