BUSINESS IN EGGS.

THE TARAUAKI CIRCLE. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Egg Circ'.e was lit'ld in the Town Hall last night. Mr. W. Scott presided over a fair, attendance of members. The aimnal report stated tluit there was a net profit tor the period under review of £37 19s 9d. -. The capital account now stands at £sl lis 7d. During the past twelve months the circle received and sold 38,fft>fi dozen eggs, at an average net price of Is 2d per dozen, while for the previous year 28,455 dozen and five eggs were marketed at an average price of Is 0-% d per dozen. Tliis' year's turnover has shown a marked increase of 10,240 dozen eggs, and at a better average price of \%A per dozen. Tlie membership has grown considerably this year. It now stands at 130, as against 85 for the previous year. The circle lias now three branches —namely, I ! Waitara, Inglewood and Stratford. The committee, had been approached by 'poultrymen at Okato and Eltham with a view to forming branches at these two places. Should sufficient inducement offer, branches will be opened there before the spring. About 20,1)00 dozen eggs- were dispatched to other markets in New Zealand, and this, of course, considerably relieved the local market. If our total output "had been sold locally, very low prices indeed woud have been received—probably not more than 9d per dozen during the Summer months. This season no eggs were exported out of tlie Dominion by the circle. Some circles sent trial shipments to America with ■ disastrous results, as, owing to bad refrigeration, tlie eggs opened up in poor condition, and realised only about Od per dozen to tlie suppliers. The following committee was appointlod for the ensuing year:—Messrs. W. Scott ,T. Hamilton, K. Shaw A. Lister, and K. Holden.
