V GENERAL GOD LEY'S REPORT. s OUR TROOPS VERY FIT. , s iWellington, April 23. < • The Minister oi Defence has received 1 i a lengthy communication from General £ - -Godley, commanding the New Zealand i , troops in Egypt, written early in March, i '- He says: "We have put in a great deal 1 - of strenuous training lately;. I think < • , this division lias now reached a state 1 - that only bullets can make it much bet- ] ■ ter. The men are very hard, fit and ( well. The officers have undoubtedly ( taken to their job and realise their re- j sponsibilitlcs. I shall be happy to take , the field with the force as it stands." f General Godley recommends the establishment of a small convalescent hospital for men who are not quite ready ■to return to camp. (This, says Mr. Allen, has been authorised.) General Godley also states that no more motor ambulances arc wanted. Jf people want t to give anything they should give field , - filter water carts. We can do with - twenty-five. The surgeon-dentists are [ doing excellent work. » The General gives a full denial, backed - by evidence, to the charge that gift tobacco is sold in the canteens. Evidence shows that some gift tobacco was exchanged by soldiers with tradesmen, who afterwards sold it in the ordinary way.
