DARING FRENCH AIRMEN. ESCAPE THROUGH A HAIL OF SHRAPNEL. t Paris, April 22.. " The Petit Journal says that a French pilot, and observer successfully bombed : " a cc.'ncr of the Belgian coast where there were nearly a hundred anti-aircraft guns. They rose nine thousand feet in a storm of shot and shell for the return journey. 1 A shot smashed \he axle of the front 1 .wheel and passed, through the car, cutting oil' the pilot's foot. The explosion of a shell nearly made the machine turn turtle, and the compass dropped out. The pilot refused the observer's assistance, navigated the aeroplane for fifteen mihij, landed safely in the French lilies on one pair of wheels, and «iu\vlcd out through-a shell hole. Later he fainted. Both men have been decorated.
