THE DEADLY OUM-DUM. IX GENERAL USR BY AUSTRIA, ENEMY'S IIKAVY LOSSES. Petrograd, April 21. Official: The Russians discovered at Kustaneks a secret order of the Frzcmysl garrison, on February 8, to return .all diim-dums to tiie depots. This was the outcome of General Selivanoff's warning on tile previous day that he would shoot all Austrians found with dumdums. The report adds that the enemy on the Nida-Pi!ica front, on April 18. used dum-dimis exclusively.
A communique states that the Austrians .made a particularly stubborn attack at Rolen height, near Rostock, and suffered very heavy losses. Five buri dred were taken 'prisoners. Bombs dropped on Bclostoek killed and. wounded several civilians, but the damage wan small. We successfully bombarded So.'.dau station.
DEVASTATION IN POLAND. "A TERRIBLE POSITION. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) Received April '22, 5.45 p.m. London, April 22. Unemployed and starving increase daily in Poland. The misery exceeds the official method of relief. 'Fifty-five hundred villages have been devastated 'and pillaged, a thousand utterly destroyed, and five hundred towns partially or entirely destroyed. Agriculture has' lost heavily, the small farmers £6,800,000 and. the larger proprietors £2,300,000. The total aggregate loss is £402,250,000.
