IN THE CAMEROONS. CAMPAIGN MAKING PROGRESS. . Paris, April 21. After stubborn fig'-iting for the last few months tiie Germans'in the Cameroons have been compelled to withdraw towards the high plateaus in the centre of the colony, and have transferred the Government to Yaunde, to which the Allies are advancing. The French, from the east, have reached the. line of the bom and Dume rivers. Mayer's column, to tiie west, has reached the Kele river. Another British column captured a bridge at the Ngua river, and is marching on tiie Edea-Taunde road. All the losses are insignificant.
A BRITISH FORCE REPULSED. A TAIIDY DISCLOSURE. London, April 21. A German communique claims that the British lost two hundred killed and four companies taken prisoner at Jassin, in German liast Africa, on January lb and 10. The German casualties totalled sixty-four.
Lord Lucas admitted in the House of Lords that. Lue Germans had captured Jassin, after the Indians and Africans had exhausted their ammunition.
HERTZOG EXONERATED. A GENERAL RoU!p>-UP. Received April 22, 8.25 p.m. Capetown, April 22. During the debate on the Rebellion Inquiry Committee's' report, Mr. Merriiiian, who was a member of the committee, entirely acquitted General Hertzog of complicity in the rebellion, though his speeches were primarily responsible. If • conspiracy existed, it was between Van Rensburg and De la Rey. The lattgr suffered from religious mania, which Van Rensburg worked on. Maritz was a traitor to both sides. Beyers was sane, but excessively ignorant and unfit for the position he held.
