BOROUGH COUNCIL.

COMMITTEE REPORTS. WORKS COMMITTEE. The works committee will report ui .to-night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council:— That the borough engineer lie authorised to arrange with Mrs C. Roberts for the erection of a suitable dividing fence between her property and the Fitz.'oy .hall site; that the Now Plymouth Bor- ; ough Council hereby resolves that provisions' of section 117 of The Public i Works Act, 1908, shall not apply to those portions of Watson and Conrtenay streets to which sections 2041, 2050 anil 2058 have frontages; that a copy of the letter from the Borough engineer with reference to the storm water drains at the carshed be forwarded to the consulting engineer; that a copy of the schedule of streets proposed to bo hid down in soltar macadam be, forwarded to the New Plymouth Gas Company and the company be informed that it will be very expensive for them to effect repairs or alterations to their mains in such streets after they have been laid down permanently and that it would be to the advantage of both the Council and the company if as much of alterations or repairs contemplated were to be effected immediately; that the incoming Council be recommended to pass a resolution that in future the anneal estimates be prepared and adopted at the April meeting of the Council in each year; that as recommended by the borough engineer the tender of Bellrintcor Bros. Ltd., for the supply of waterworks general hardware, kerosene, and oils be accepted subject to the addition of the following words to the reservation submitted by the tenderers: —"In the ev.vit of its being proved to the Council that supplies cannot be procured in Now Zealand.''; that the tender of lfe*is Bendall and Co. for the supply of coal and firewood be accepted; that no tender be accepted for horseshoeing, but that the work be distributed as evenly as possible between Messrs R. H. Sole and S. Fraser, the only tenderers; that no tender be accepted for the supply of cement but one half the supplies required bo obtained from Messrs E. Griffiths and Co., and the balance from the other t-n----dcrers, Messrs Bellringer Bros., Ltd., and Messrs Nolan and Co.; that the borough engineer be authorised to dispose of tv.'o of the borough horses either for cash or exchange if the opportunity occurs; that the borough solicitors be instructed to advise as to the council's power to compel property owners within the borough to clear noxious weeds to the centre of the street; that the borough engineer bo authorised to plane any spare earth from St Aubyn street into the hollow near the entrance to the Kawaroa park; that his worship o\c Mayor and Cr Collis be authorised to execute on behalf of the Council the agreement with the Railway Depart ment for the purchase of land in Carrington road and .Leach street. ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE 1 . The committee recommends:That the borough engineer be authorised to make the necessary sewer connection at the new substation building (estimated extra cost £10); that the electrical engineer be authorised to purchase a girder for the repair, shop in the new substation for handling machines and transformers (cost £l2 10s 'id); that Mr F. Black be informed that i'oe Council is adverse to the substitution of Oregon lathing for metal lathing and he be asked to ascertain whether other ) brands of metal lathing are not procurable in the Dominion. LIBRARY COMMITTEE ' That the thanks of this commit+se be ! tendered to Mr J. D. Henry for his gift of a copy of his " History and Romance of the Petroleum Industry" and that an acknowledgement of the receipt of the book be sent to Mr T. Avery; that ihe offer of the Theosophical Society of 3S T cw Zealand to supply a free copy of their magazine to the magazine room be accepted, that the thanks of this committee be tendered to the chairman for his report on die work and finances of the library and that he and Cr Johnstone be a subcommittee to draft and present a report to the Borough Council in answer to their letter of the I2th inst. asking for recommendations from this committee to reduce ,tho loss on the library operations. COMBINED RESERVES AND LIBRARY COMMITTEE. That the offer of Mr E. Griffiths be not entertained at present; that plans be prepared for a two-storey building at the rear of the Carnegie Library building, the top storey to be used as a museum and the lower story temporarily for municipal offices.
