AN ESCAPED PRISONER.
By Telegraph.—Press Association, Wellington, March 29. Henry Francis Smith, who was arrested last night on a charge, of escaping from Waimarino prison camp on February 24, pleaded not guilty to-day and was remanded.

Timaru, Last Night. At a meeting of the creditors of the estate of Walter Shaw, bankrupt solfe tor, some tenders of small'amounts for as9et 3 were accepted and others were declined.
The Deputy Official Assignee stated that the claims against the estate amounted to £53.000, tat had been «ut down to £SOOO or £6OOO. So far as he could see the estate would pay about twopence in the pound. A creditor said that if they waited ten years for the realisation they might get fourpence.
