Miss Katlicrine Prichard, of Molbournc, won Hoddcr & Stoughton's .6250 prize for an Australian novel called "Pioneers."
LAND SALE AT MANLY.
Sydney, March 29,
A record land Bale took, place at Manly in which £42,200 was realised. Land sold at the rate of '£B to £26 per foot.
A FATAL EXPLOSION.
Sydney, March 29. In a blasting accident at Cockatoo Island one man was killed and two injured. The charge* failed to detonate, and the men were investigating when the explosion occurred.
BAKERS' HOURS CHANGED.
Sydney, March 29.
A mass meeting of the Bakers' Union ratified an agreement with the employers to commence work at 10 o'clock instead of noon.
THEFT OF CANCELLED NOTES.
Melbourne, March 23.
Notes valued at £2OOO addressed to the Treasury have been stolen from the steamer Bomtala. All were cancelled.
"SNOWY". BAKER'S ACCIDENT.

"Snowy" Baker suffered injury to his spine, but is progressing. Redmond was to have resumed duty to-day after sick leave. Many public tributes haye been made to Jiis journalistic career.
