BACHELORS DEFEAT BENEDICTS.
A pleasant match was played n the Recreation Grounds on Saturday between teams representing married and i single. Neither side was fully rcpreI sentative. The game resulted in an easy victory for the single men. Heski'tt's bowling was one of the • causes of the married men's defeat, but a contributory factory was the atrocious fielding of the benedicts, a ready reckoner being required to keep pace with the number of dropped catches, one man heing dropped nine times in compiling 15. McGie was an exception, and the catch that end?d Roberts' career was a beautiful onehanded one, in which the fieldsman injured his ankle. Roberts was top score for the single men. Stohr (11) was the only man to do anything against Heskett in the Benedicts' first venture. In the second innings, Sartcn ,made a fine effort to save the double defeat, his score including four sixers off Heskett. Ingram (11) backed him up well, but the others failed, and the married men were defeated by an innings and 19 runs. The single men's fielding was, on the whole, good. Detailed scores: —
