A POISONING CASE.

•— I CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. At the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, A. J. Richards was charged with having attempted suicide by swallowing poison at Opunake on January 27. Mr J. H. Quilliam appeared for Mm, and he pleaded not guiltv. The defendant asked to be dealt with summarily. Sub-Inspector Fonhy asked for a remand as in face, of the plea of not guilty he was not prepared to proceed with the case that day. Mr Quilliam asked for the case to be dealt with at once, as the defendant was prepared to give evidence that the poison had been taken purely by accident. The Magistrate saia that i n view of the application by the police he would make an adjournment until Friday next at 12 noon. Bail was allowed in one surety of self £2O and two of £lO each.
