An inquiry was resumed to-day into the death of James Porter, who "\va« killed on January 2fitli while engaged in ti'e erection of a signal post near the Henderson railway station. Tile coroner announced a verdict of "death due to injuries received by falling from a sigr.al post." Harry Johnston, tme foreman, had, in the opinion of Mr Onttun, given his evidence quite franklv and straightforwardly, and made no attempt to evade his responsibility. The causa of the accident wag the omi.wion of 'Johnston to comply with the railway; regulations. That omission was art qmwssion to discharge p. legal: duty, amounting to culpable negligence. As a sequel to the coroner's finding in the inquest into the 'cause of death; of .fames Porter, as the result of attflj from a signal post at Helensvillc, Hawf, Johnston, the man in charge of t&4 gang of signal erectors at the time jS the accident, has ,beoni charged wffi manslaughter. A remand was granted for a week, bail was lied at £4O.
