DOCKYARD CARPENTERS PAID OFF. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, January 22. Owing to Mr Jensen, the Finance member of the Naval Board, transferring transport fitting work from the State dockyards to a private contractor, 600 members of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters struck in the dockyard, but they were taken on by the contractor, while 450 members of the Progressive Society of Carpenters working in the dockyards have been paid off.
