ALLEGED ELECTION MUDDLE.

Till'. TAUMARUNUI SEAT. PETITION TO UNSEAT MR. W. T. JENNINGS. Bv Telearaph.—Per Press Association. Waitara, Yesterday. Details of the petition of Mr C. K. Wilson, the defeated candidate for Taumarunui, arc advertised in to-night a issue of the Waitara Mail. The petitioner alleges that while 7917 votes were declared by the returning officer, there are only 7049 votes accounted for by marked rolls and other votes legally receivable; that 30 persons received ballot papers at two polling places; that certain persons eligible to vote were d - nied the right; that others not eligible actually voted; that the names of certain persons, of whom some were aliens not naturalised, and others under legal age, were placed on the roll; and that Mr Jennings himself was not duly registered, because his name only appears on the Taumarunui roll, and he is not a resident of the Taumarunui district. Petitioner also alleges irregularities at four polling booths. In consequence it is asked that the Court (I) order a scrutiny and recount; (2) that it may be determined that Mr Jennings be not elected; and (3) that the election be declared void. The petition will be. heard at the February sitting f the Court in New Plymouth.
