HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The High School Board held their usual monthly meeting on Monday, when the following were present: Messrs. Dockrill (in the chair), G. Grey, Fookes, W. Fraser, D. Hutchen, W. N. Ewing, and the secretary (Mr. Monteath). The Board granted £lO prize-money, to be divided in tlie following ratio: for Boys' School, and £4 for Girls' School. An exchange of land being contemplated with the Borough Council, a deputation of Messrs. Fraser, Ewing, and Dockrill was appointed to interview the Council. RETIRING MEMBERS. Messrs. H. Eyre-Kenny and George Grey sent in resignations. Mr. Kenny stated that he was forced to retire, owing to his continued ill-Health. Mr. Grey wrote that he had not the time available from business to attend to his duties. The Board passed a motion, expressing deep regret at losing such valuable members. ITHE GIRLS' SCHOOL. A motion was passed, reappointing Mr. Frank Messenger architect to the Board. Mr.' Dockrill, Mr. Ewing, and Mr. Hutchen were appointed a commit-, teo to interview the architect, and explain what was wanted in regard to the j new building for the Girls' School. Mr. G. Hogben, Inspector-General of -Schools, wrote regarding the grant of £4OOO to the Girls' School, stipulating that the money could not be available before March 31st, 1915, NEW 'MEMBERS. Mr. Austin Bewley, the vice-president of the Old Boys' Association, wrote as •follows: —"For some time past the High ' School Old Boys' Association has been 1 desirous of securing further representation on the Board of Governors, and as it is understood that there are now two vacant seats on the Board, caused through the retirement of Messrs. EyreICenny and George Grey, a meeting of the Association was held on Saturday, with the object of furthering the matter. After the position had been fully discussed, it was unanimously resolred that I should write to and bring under the Board's notice Mr. E. P. Webster as a candidate for one of the vacant positions. In BUpport of Mr. Webster's nomination, wc wish to point- out that Mr. ■Webster is not only an old boy of the school, but is also the parent of a boy attending the school, and fully realises how important an institution a secondary school is." Messrs. T. C. List, A. Mci Tardy, and E P, Webster wore nominated for recommendation to the Government for appointment as members, and a ballot resulted in favor of 'Messrs. List and McHardy. GENERAL. A resolution wag passed that, save in special circumstances, the Board would allow teachers severing their connection j with the school only three months' leave | on full pay, according to the terms of their agreement. j '.Mr. Walter Bewley was granted an additional month's leave of absence.
