Official. —The 110 th Mahrattas, assisted by an armed steamer, on December 5, drove the enemy across the Tigris, opposite Kurnah,' it)footing heavy losses. They also captured twj guns. Another force from Basra", under General Fry, captured Maseria/opposite Kurnah, on December 7, and cleared the left bank of the Tigris, capturing three guns. , \ The combined British crossed the river, on the 18th, and occupied Kurnah on the 10th. One British officer was killed and three wounded. Forty Indians were killed and 120 woundsd. The British have now completed control of the Tigris and Euphrates to the sea, and the richest part .of the fertile delta.
