WEST END BEACH.

MEETING OF THE SOCIETY. Despite the almost continuous downpour, tiiere was an attendance of over twenty, of both sexes, at the general meeting of the West End Foreshore Improvement Society, held at the Bungalow. In the unavoidable absence of 'the president, Mr. G. Tabor, Mr. Staples was voted to the chair.

Correspondence was read, forwarding £5 from an anonymous donor; two guineas from Dr. Leatham; half-a-guinea from Mrs. Dowling; and a gift in kind from Mrs. G. 'W. Browne—The secretary was instructed to acknowledge these, and to express the society's thanks and appreciation of this practical recognition of the efl'orts to beautify and popularise Kawaroa Park and the West End beach.

The secretary produced a balancesheet of the sale of work and picnic held last Thursday, showing a net profit of £47 2s sd, the total expensed having amounted to £9 10s 3d.

As the result of this function, the debt' on the Buugalow, which was erected in concrete, has been extinguished. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the ladies' committee; and to all who assisted, special reference being made to the untiring work of the ladies for some months past, not only in preparing for the sale of work, but in assisting with weekly euchre parties. A vote of appreciation of the work of the contractors, Messrs. Russell and Son, and for the liberal terms afforded the- 60cicty, was passed. It was decided,to issue season tickets lit ss. each, to admit to all the park functions.

It was decided to advertise the Boxing Day picnic in the Eltham and Stratford papira.

The committee was recommended to engage labor far a general clean-up of the park before the holidays; and to apply to the Borough Council for the installation of improved conveniences. Another general meeting will be held shortly, and on the same evening a public meeting will be held in connection with the proposal to form tennis courts on Kawaroa Park.
