REVIEW OF EUROPEAN OPERATIONS. Wellingtdii, Last Night. His Excellency the Governor has received the following message from the Secretary of State:— The Belgians have been engaged in a sharp action north of Arras. Tho enemy endeavored without success to come out of the trenches south of Bixschoote, between Bethune and Lens. The French carried the Chateau and part of Vermelles by assault, after a somewhat hot encounter.
The Russian headquarters report that the Russian offensive was successful north of Lowicz. German reinforcements from Kolisez have been engaged via Losse, where desperate fighting took place. In the south a brigade of infantry of Prussian Guards, with five batteries, were dislodged, and forced back in disorderly retreat. * : I
