THE HIGH SCHOOL.
GIRL'S MAGAZINE. Tlio December number of the New Plymouth Girls' High School Magazine scores a high water mark in literary production, and is a journal of which tlio school may be proud. A strikingly well-written article on George Elliot, from the pen of the Rev. H. J. Lewis, gives a summary of the rise of women in literature, anil George Elliot's position in the literary world of her time. "Farewell," a short poem by E.EI.G., expresses very prettily the sentiments felt by each of lis when school life is practically left behind for all time. The "school jokes" column is very good, some of the jokes being very clever. The sporting page takes up quite an amount of space which is quite unexpected, seeing that the production is a girls' magazine. The hockey page is very interesting. The "Old Girl's" portion of the Magazine, entitled "Te Kura Mounga," contains one particularly interesting article by Miss Elsie Bollinger, an old girl, at present ■in Germany. Miss Muriel Lennon has some long extracts from an old girls' record of her voyage home to England. They give a magnificent account of the splendoiir and brilliance of the harbor and town of Monte Video.
The Magazine as a whole is a fine production and makes very interesting reading. Some of the articles are extremely well written and the general chat and manner are delightful.
