FURTHER EVIDENCE. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, October 24. The Education Committco continued taking evidence on tho Biblc-in-Scnools Bill this morning. Mr Caughley continued to cross-exam-ine Canon Garland. ITe said that his league advocated a system of lessons in Scripture and for such there was no need df a conscience clause. They neither did nor did not oppose a, conscience clause for teachers. Their proposal did not include a conscience clause except for children, but he could not say if the league would oppose the introduction of a conscience, clause. They only asked teachers to handle lessons as if reading literature, not asking them to do more than was obligatory on them now in giving ordinary Christian teaching. The league did not ask for anything which would violate the fundamental principles of any teachers church. The league would not accept any card of membership unless the applicant''was over 21. The cards of those not 21 would be put-. on one-side till their birthday. The Rev. W. (I. Cook was also examined as to the method of giving lessons in New South Wales.
