AN ARSENIC CUSTARD.
THE MOUNT ROYAL CASE. Ry Telegraph.—Per Presi Association. Dunediu, Last' Night. At an inquest on the body of dames Ross, who died at Mount Royal station from poisoning -was continued at Paljnerston to-day. The evidence showed that John O. Walters, who was also tak.ii vio'entl illl but recovered, had purchased in Dunedin sirchniiie for roiskiiiini; eats. This ha/1 been placed jon a saucer, and though he burnt what remained of the nolson before he left for Mount Royal, some evidently 'remained on the asucer, which [jot into the house in some way, and Mrs Walters unwittingly plaeed the saucer over the top of a basin containing the custard pudiiing, which was suit to Walters and Ross, who ate it. The analysis showed strychnine in the body of deceased. The jury found deceased died from strychnine poisoning, partaken of in rice custard, and added a rider that gross carelessness bad been shown by 'Walters in handling the poison.
