CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
SITTING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. lIOTELWOIIKER'S DISPUTE. The sitting of the Conciliation Council held at Town Hall and presided over by the Commissioner, Mr llarle Giles, concluded on Friday, when tiie various matters connected with the llotclworkers' dispute were settled and recommendations agreed to a,, under:— Hours of work—To be regulated by the Shops and Olliees Act, special provision being made with regard to workers not being brought to work until after ail interval of at least ten hours.
Holidays.—One full day a week, bar assistants also to have a holiday each week. (The employers reserved the rigjht to apply to the Court for exemption from t'lic award of the half holiday each week).
Wages.—The wages of tiic various workers were fixed, those for the kiteVen employees being regulated according to the luinvbcr of hands eim]doyed. Overtime.—As provided in the Siiops mil Offices Aft. ISIOB.
Casual l.abor—Kates of pay were fixed, and provision made for extra payment where work is done at races, balls, banquets etc., away from the employer's
premises. Hoard and Lodgin".—Where board is not provided, employees to receive Ids a week extra, and 5s a week extra in lieu of lodging. Termination of employment. In default of a written agreement seven days notice 011 either side must, I>t pi veil, the employer being allowed to keep two days' wages in hand. Wages are to be' paid weekly unless otherwise agreed. I'nder-rate workers.-- Special provision is made as to wages for this class of employee, a permit being necessary, but its operation is limited to G months, after which period it continues subject to 14 days r notice. Only one such worker allowed in each hotel, except at New Plymouth, ITaweru, Stratford. Inglewood, Waitara, Eltham, Pacta, Manaia and Opnnake. Preference. —Worker* must beeoTno members of the I'nion "within fourteen days of bein# engaged. and a refusal to do so will bo a breiieli ot the award.
