INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The grand' patriotic concert and dance held in the Town liall on Thursday night was a distinct success in every way, and the committee have good caiHe to feel gratified as the net result of their labors. The ideal weather conditions enabled a large number of visitors to attend from neighboring towns, and the spacious hall, which was appropriately decorated, was padied to the doors. The concert was advertise*! as one of a high class order, and tine audience was. not disappointed, nearly every 'performer receiving enthusiastic encores and double encores. The following were the items:— Overture, orchestra; song, "Nelson's gone a sailing," Rev. J. A. Kempthorne; song, (Mrs. Basfca.ni; Highland dance, Misses Todd; song, Mr, E. Oormley; duet (cornet and clarionet), Messrs 11. and S. Cottier; song, "Come sing to me," Miss L. Lang; song (comic), iMr. Sinclair; patriotic song and chorus, "The Lads in Navy Blue," Mr. J. Hasten*; overture, orchestra; song, "The Veteran's Song," Mrs (Robinson; song, Mr. 1). Ingram; vocal duet, 'Messrs Aek l'oyd find Hooker; song, Mrs. Busham; song, Mr. E. Gorml«|yi; patriotic song and chorus, "Soldiers of the King" Mr. 'W. J. Matthews; song (comic), Mr. Sinclair; tableau "Rule Britannia"; "lied 'Save the King." The patriotic song's and choruses were performed by about thirty ladies and gentlemen in various unifoiiW, and tthese produced a striking effect.

The takings were, I lielieve, wcr £4O. The success of the whole proceedings is greatly "due to the energetic secretary of the patriotic fund, Mr. J. M. Gumming, who undoubtedly displays a wonderful amount of enthusiasm in collecting funds for this worthy object. Tho committee desire to sincerely tlliank those ladies and gentlemen from Jlawera, lEltham, Stratford, and Xew ■Plymouth who assisted with vocal lunl instrumental items. Captain Stevens 'being indisposed, others came forward, and offered their service#.
' Mr. McGinnity, mine host of the Hailway Hotel, has generously donated a fine Union Jack to the, Patriotic Fund Committee, who have received permission front the proper authorities to raffle at. The flag is one similar to that bought in Christchurch for fl'JO.
