The Times' Petrograd correspondent says that tne battle of Suwalki is destined to live in history as one of the fiercest in the war, also as the most important in view of the numbers engaged, and the results achieved, while the moral effects of the Russian victory are incalculable.

Official. The t'iifliiiy in East Prussia have revived reinforcempiits from lvoeaigsberg. Their fortified positions on tile frontier are supported by numerous siege guns.
Very fierce fighting has occurred at Baklarzevo, in the Suwalki district. Aviators' reconnaissances show that there is an uninterrupted movement of German columns and transport trains withdrawing across the frontier.

AustVian reports received at Ancona admit' that tlie Russians have advanced through the province of Marmaros (Eastern Hungary) ami occupied Hoszumezo. The suburbs of Vienna are being feverishly fortified, houses demolished, guns mounted on the Mis, trenches and breastworks erected. There are similar preparations- at Budapest and other largo cities; The banks arc sending bullion to the country. The State treasuries and; archives ire also being removed.
