GALLANT DEFENCE OF A BRIDGE. Antwerp, October 5.

Official.—The artillery battle continued all day long. The situation is unchanged. The Germans re-occupied Landekin. London, October 5.

The Times' Antwerp correspondent says that sinco the war started tha King has established a. wonderful ascendency in the minds of the Belgian people. On the testimony of the highest military authorities he has shown himself a soldier of first-rate ability. Ostend, October 5.

Sub-Lieutenant Kiernaux, in charge of a battery, gallantly prevented the Germans rushing a strategically important bridge over the Scheldt, connecting Tcrmondc and Grembergen. With the battery carefully hidden he swept the troops off' the bridge. iA second party of Germans, wrapped in mattresses, advanced and were shfit down. A third attempt failed; then the German artillery found the range and routed tho battery. Kiernaux was killed, but his mine succeeded in blowing up the bridge.
