NIGHT ATTACK ON TSING-TAO,
G ERMANS UNSUCCESSFUL.

Official.—A German night attack on Tsing-tao failed, and 47 were killed. Five Japanese were killed, and eight were wounded.
The Japanese heavy guns hit the 11Hz, which retired.

Pekin, October 5. China has consented to the Japanese controlling the Weinsein railway. The German 17in howitzers have disastrous effects at long ranges, but the. mechanism is so complicated and the transport so difficult that the ideal conditions are rarely obtained.
The liowitzers are harmless at close
range.
KAISER'S MESSAGE TO TSING-TAO.
Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received 6. (ils p.m.. London, October C. The Kaiser's last message to the garrison at T.sing-tao read: "God be with you. I shall bear you in remembrance. In the imminent hard struggle defend to the last man."
JAPANESE SUCCESS REPORTED.
Tientsin, October 5.
According to Thinanfu reports, during the. naval bombardment of Tsing-tao three German batteries in Fort Bismarck were put out of action, the adjacent barracks Ural, and the outer defences occupied by the Allies.
