YOUNG DAIRY EMPLOYEES.

The -Magistrate, Mr. Riddell, gave judgment to-day in- a case brought by the Labor Department for interpretation of the dairymen's employees award. He held that boys engaged assisting with dairy milk were workers under the award, and must be paid a minimum of £2 10a weekly.
A TOTAL LOSS.

Private advices received locally state that the barquentine Titania, owned by 'Captairt Holm, of Wellington, which stranded on the Dumbea Reef, New Calidonia, on August 22, is now a total loss.
SUNDAY MEETINGS. . Dunedin, iSfcptcmber 1. Mr Widdowson, S.M., gave judgment to-day in an interesting case in which the Tramways Union sued a member for three shillings, representing two fines of Is each upon defendant for absenting himself, without apology in writing, froim the annual meetings of the Union on two Sundays, and a furthei fine of Is for not being clear on the books at tho. 'half-yearly meeting. The Secretary stated that the meetings were called on Sundays, as CO per cent, of the members were unable to attend on week days. Defendant objected on principle to such meetings, and held he was justified in absenting himself without apology. In concluding his judgment, the magistrate said: "Although a great deal may be argued on ethical grounds, I am bound to hold that tlie meeting referred to was legally held. I am therefore of opinion that plaintiffs are entitled to judgment, but do not think costs should he allowed."
