"We were entrenched on a sort of spur, amid a tornado of shot and shell. We repeatedly had the order, "Men, be prudent." But they stood up and chaffed one another in the trenches. One man calmly slept through the racket, and when we evacuaftid the position -we had to arouse Mm."
BOULOGNE NOT ABANDONED,

Reuter's Boulogne correspondent reports that the Governor is still there. The alarming reports arc entirely baseless. There is no reason for the belief that Uhlans are in the vicinity.
BRITISH 'DISCIPLINE. London, August 31. Civilian eye-witnesses at Amiens testify that the British retired intact and kept their lines together. No divisions were cut off.
