The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report as follows: On Friday, 7th August, we held a most successful sale on account of Mr James Montgomerie, Pembroke road, Stratford, who has sold his property. There was a very large attendance of Ulie public, although the day was very wet and cold. The stock submitted were good and creditable to the owner, and were m tins pink of condition. Sundries were offered first and were disposed of at very full values. Chaff-cutter 40s; milk cans 20s; chain harrows, 62~s 6d; swinglebars, 21s; back dhains, 16s; rick cover 4/Os; Price's jack, 85s; Trewella jack, 57s Gd; sledge, 60s; milk cart, £10; cowrugs, from 5s 6d to 7s fid; hay tedder, 1755; Woods' rake, £5; galvanised iron 3d 3d per sheet; plough, 120s; Disc harrows, 115s; gig, £lB 10s; harness fi7s lid; cart harness, 1255; liorse rugs, 21s; pigs 127s fid to 130s; boar, 255; slips, 16s fid to 345; lambs, 13s 6d; fowls, 2s Od each; factory shares, 10s; liorscs, £8 to £24 10s; sound cows realised from £8 to £l7; average for the herd being £ll 8s fid; three-teaters, 107s Grl; yearling heifer, 13©s; Jersey bull, 2205. We also offered at the same salo on account of Edward Bennett, a portion of liis herd, which made fair prices, although it was getting late, and he withdrew the Jate calvers. The sound cows (showing age) made an average of £0 Is. On Monday lOtlh August, we held a clearing sale on account of John O'C'ohner, esq., Tariki .road. The attendance was good and competition fair and everything was cleared at satisfactory prices. Milk dray, 410s; roller, 2405: jack -00s; galvanised iron Is 11(1 per sheet; hay, 150s; tank, 42s'fid; copper. 255; tine harrows, Bus. Cows were well competed for, Bound animals and close to profit making £S to £9 10s; backward, £5 to £7 1.0s; fat cows. UOs; threetcuters and empty, 80s to 1)0s; pigs, sows, 57s 6d to 00s: stores, 13s to 20s; boar 20s. At this sale we offered on account of Mr Ellicott a quantity of furniture and liorse, gig and iharncss, all of which were sold at full values. On Tuesday, 11th inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards. The yarding was fair, but apparently the war has shaken the confidence of .purchasers as bidding was slack. However, a fair clearance was effected privately at the following prices:— Empty heifers, 55s to 72s (id; empty cows, 72s to 78s; yearling steers, 50s to 558; forward cows, S.'ls to 90s; mixed lambs, lis l,0d; yearling heifers, up to |*Ss; wethers, 20s. In the dairy yards | there was a fair entry, hut the" quality i'yas not up .to out u-ual standard, except a line of rising 3-year-old heifers (Shorthorn) yarded byi Mr. Boyle, Toko road, which were the "finest line of heifers of the kind yarded for some time, and were sold under very keen competition for £B, £S ss, £O, £9 15s up to £ll. Other good dairy cows, £0 5s to £8 15s; 2-year -heifers,'entered by A. J. Cranton, Cardiff, showed quality/and were disposed of at £7 ss. Other dairy heifers made up to £5.
