Obnoxious Hindus

The Immigration Department has ordered Captain Yanmto to leave the harbor with his Hindu passengers. Yamato tried to raise steam, hut the Hindus attacked him with clubs and obliged him to leave the Koinagata Maru. Tile owners' agents have warned the Hindus that they will bring the police aboard to conduct them outside the three miles limit, and leave them to starve or find their way home. The Hindus defied the authorities and are refusing to leave Canadian waters until their passage money is refunded and a supply of provisions granted. The deadlock continues. POLICE INTERFERENCE RESENTED. HINDUS SHOW FIGHT. Received 20, 12.50 a.m. Vancouver, July 19. The Hindus on the Komagata Maru beat off two hundred police and immigration officials when they endeavored to tow the Komagata Maru seaward. Several of the police were wounded, and some of the Hindus were shot, but whether fatally is not known.
