BND OF A SENSATIONAL CASE.

Sydney, June 19. When the jury returned a verdict declaring that David Kernahan was not guilty of participating in the Darlinghurst .hold-up, a number of people applauded. Judge Backhouse, who had been keeping watch, called two offender* to show cause why they should not •be fined forty shillings, and ordered them to be kept in prison until the fine •was paid. Both paid the fines and were released.
A cablegram on May 5 said:—This morning's hold-up at Darlinghurst was the most sensational for years. It occurred at one o'clock. About twenty persons were in the house, celebrating the birthday of one of the famijy. Suddenly a tall masked man "entered, and presented a revolver, demanding "hands up!" The party was staggered. The marked man then whistled, and three others appeared. The owner of the house entered a protest, but was si-* lenced by the cursing men, who pushed revolvers in his face. The party "was stood in a semi-circle, while the intruders calmly went through their pockets and stole £6OO in money and jewellery; One guest attempted to escape Iby the back door, but a robber promptly fired his revolver, bringing him to a standstill. After clearing out the party, the men backed through the door, - still threatening with revolvers, boarded motor-cars and decamped. > Later, detectives arrested David Kcrnahan, aged 25, who was charged with assaulting and robbing one of'the guests. He was remanded on bail o.f £lfioo.
