Mr. Ernest Sa v .*illc-We6t, the unsuccessful claima'.it to the Sackville peerage and estates, committed suicide on hearing of his wife's death from cancer.
The Saekville-Wcsts recently conducted a lodging-house at Monte Carlo. The deceased came to Paris in connection with the illness of his wife, who was Suffering from cancer. The treatment 'did not avail, and he was distracted on seeing his wile's body. Then he walked to the next room, and shot himself with * revolver. Money troubles were partially, responsible for the deed. Deceased only possessed Bs.
The above message revives memories i- «f a celebrated lawsuit. In February of 1910 Ernest Sackvillc-Wcst filed a petition in the Probate Court for a declaration of legitimacy. He was a son of the late Lord Sackville and a Spanish dancer joined Pepita Durand, and if the petition had been successful he would have been declared the legitimate eldest son, and his claim <» the Sackville peerage would Save ranked before that of Lionel Edjrard SackVille-Wcst, who is now in possession of the title and estates, petitioner's suit having been dismissed.
