THE WALKURE.

LARGE NUMBER OP VISITORS. There was a -large number of people from all parts of the district at Moturoa yesterday, and the Walkure was covered from how to stem with interested visitors.

In reply to an equiry, the captain of the Walkure stated the gross tonnage of his vessel to be 6700, which is considerably more than has hitherto been credited.

Mr. Newton King, to whose enterprise and business acumen in his private capacity, ' not to mention his public work, the harbor, and indeed all Taranaki, owes so much, in his remarks showed deep-set confidence in the success of the port's future, and the stimulus which would be given not merely to inward trade, but to the development of the agricultural and pastoral industries of the district, and, therefore, of the export trade. His remarks left the gathering in no that he meant what he said, that he had been fighting difficulties, and that if would not be duo to any want of energy and determination on his part if the prospects he outlined do not materialise. The function I was a heartening gathering, and unstinted congratulations are due in respect of the success achieved, and, as to the future, the general wish must be that the highest hopes will be fully realised. —Hawera Star.
