THE TARANAKI SEAT. Mr. H. Okey, M.P., will probably address the electors before the House sits on June 23.
Mr.iW. Forbes, in response to requests from town and country electors, has decided to contest the Taranaki seat at the forthcoming election. He will address the electors early next month.
THE EGMONT SEAT. At the meeting of the Reform party at Elthaui on Saturday, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, the sitting member, was chosen as tlie party's candidate for the Egmont electorate at the coming election.
BEFOEM CANDIDATE FOR NELSON.
Nelson, Saturday. Mr. T. A. H. Field, who has an unbeaten record as Mayor and councillor, has been unanimously selected as the official Reform candidate to contest the Nelson seat.
MR. P. C. WEBB AT WESTPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. Mr. P. C. Webb, member for Greymouth, gave a political address in the Victoria Theatre last night, under the auspices of the Buller branch of the Social-Democratic party, urging State shipping, a State bank, and the bursting up of monopolies. He condemned the Reform party and found shortcomings in the Liberal party, and stated that if a choice came between the two lie would support the Liberals. At the conclusion, the speaker, who was subjected to some interruptions, mainly by a member of the audience who reminded the speaker that the monopolies ho objected to throve under the Liberal administration, was accorded a vote of thanks for the -address, and for the wajj he answered questions. The audience was not very large.
MINISTER OP RAILWAYS. Tauranga, Friday. The Hon. Mr llcrries addressed a large audience at tlie Opera House to-niglit. the Mayor presiding. He claimed that the Government had redeemed its pledges, or would have done so by the end of the coming session. Regarding native land, of which there were large areas in the vicinity of Tauranga, he would send a Native Land Inspector to inspect any land the natives were willing to sell. He defended the Government's action in settling the strike, and claimed that the Government had done more to secure industrial peace for a long time to come than other previous Govcmspeaker and of confidence in the Minisment. The Minister received an attentive hearing, and a vote of thanks to the try was passed unanimously.
