Duke of Connaught
OFFERED IRELAND'S LORDUIEUTE.VANCY. Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received 25, 5.45 p.m. London, May 25. Tho Sunday Times says that Cabinet has sounded the Duke of C'onnaught as to his willingness to accept the LordLieutenantship of Ireland, hut he'will give no answer until lie leaves Canada, and confers with the King. The Times adds that it is not generally known that the late Queen Victoria recommended his appointment to Ireland, but this was abandoned because of the risk of involving the Crown in party politics, the feeling in Ireland being that the LordLieutenant should not take sides.
