BARQUE ABANDONED AND SCUTTLED. RESULT OF SHIFTING BALLAST. By Cable—Press Association—Copyrigh Received 22, 9.30 p.m. nobart, May 22.

The steamer Wainui has arrived from Strnhan, with Captain Monson, officers and crew of the barque Svenor. (The barque was previously reported to be on fire twelve miles west of Mt. Iteemskirk). The Svenor was en route from Frcmantle to Newcastle in ballast. When 22 days out, the ballast shifted, and she was thrown on to her beam ends. The masts were cut away, and the ves'sel drifted for nearly a fortnight till sighted by the Wainui. An attempt to tow her failed, and it' was decided to abandon her. Prior to leaving, in order to prevent the derelict being dangerous to navigation, the Svenor was scuttled and set on fire. The crew left in boats and were picked up by the Wainui.
