HOTEL TROUBLES.
HMPLOYIOKJ AND THE SIX DAYK' WEEK. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Tho private hotels, restaurants, and tc* and refreshment roams' dispute was before, the Conciliation Council to-day. The men arc seeking higher wages and improved conditions, including a six,-day week. The etnp.oyers have tiled counter demands, in which they ask for the existing award. A representative of the union explained that the men were asking for certain slight increapps in wages, and if tliey ,were granted he had no doubt that private liotelkecpers, like .licensed hotelkeepers, would pass the increased charge on to the public. Whatever employers aid they were certain of getting a sixday week, and he suggested it would be an act of grace, on the part of the employers to grant it without being forced to give it. The employers' representative replied that the employers did not approve of the concession, and would not grant it until forced to do so by the court. Tic argued that the present conditions were reasonable and fair. The council decided to discuss |,he position in private.
