HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING ANNUAL KEPOKT. There was a good attendance of some forty householders, Mr. P. Skoglund (chairman of the committee), presiding. The committee's annual report congratulated the householders on the continued welfare and progress of the school. Regret was expressed at no tangible progress having been made as to the extension of the playground, but it was hoped that the interview with the Minister on the matter would bear fruit. Action was taken to obtain the withdrawal of obnoxious proposals as to the election of school committees, and curtailing subsidies on donations to school funds. Owing to numerous protests, the proposals were withdrawn. The swimming bath had been improved, a donation of £5 by the Swimming Club materially assisting in the work. So successful had been the school sports that it was hoped they would not again be dropped. The concert given before ! Christmas was well put on and greatly J appreciated. The seaside excursion J passed off in the usual enjoyable man- j ner, tho East End Committee doing all I in their power for the children. The horse paddock had been fenced and pro- { vided with a water trough, and a wirenetting fence erected round the tennis ground. Recommendations were made J urging the enlargement of the educa- j tion district so as to take in the whole j of tho province, and it was suggested that the incoming committee consider I the question of forming a drum and fife i band. I
The average attendance was: Primary Sl7, secondary 122; total, 838. On March 31 the number on the roll was 728. The reports of the Board's inspectors and of the Department's inspectors contained flattering remarks on the work of the school. The very high percentage of passes gained by the pupils who had been two years in the secondary department testified to the high efficiency of the school. The following successes were gained: One ' Taranaki University Scholarship, one Junior XAtional Scholarship, one Bayly Memorial Scholarship, nine Board's Scholarships (in this examination Stratford puipls came first, second, third and fourth), three Board's Junior Scholarships, seven pupils passed matriculation, solicitor's general knowledge and medical preliminary, two medical preliminary, two pupils passed matriculation and solicitor's general knowledge, seventeen passed civil service junior examination, four being on the credit list, nnd 48 passed examinations for Senior Free Places.

THE MAYORALTY. There was again a well-filled Town Hail last night, when the Mayor, Mr. VV. P. Kirkwood, replied to his opponent, Mr. N. J. King. Mr. H. MeK. Morion presided. Mr. Kirkwood categorically replied to Mr. King' 3 arguments and verilied his own statements made at his previous address. He twitted his opponent, not only with grabbing the whole of his (the speaker's) policy, even to the .loan of two \,i;-3 ago, but also with having at the eleventh hour executed a complete volte face on tne olectric light question; aJso with having helped to swell the amount of the Mayor's £13,000 loan scheme to £40,000 and thus assisting in its rejection, which he now deplored, and blamed the speaker for. jur. King, said the speaker, was unable to free himself from the history of the Stratford Electric Light Company. He had an interest of £B9 in shares, not £SO, as stated, and was also liable as one of'the guarantors ;f .£OOOO in respect of certain mortg ges. In regard to the li cense, if x ,ir. King were elected mavor, and even though he might oppose the issue of the license, the company might say to the Minister that the election of Mr. King, their representative, showed that the people wished the license i<> issue. This. • f course, was not the case. He justified the action he had taken over th» Opunake railway and warned tin rafep'iV'-s that the electric li<r!it -'i;oo-;>v" ,'„';,,', i yet cost the town up 10 &jj.u:i.
BERNARD'S PICTURES Laat night's programme at His Majesty's Theatre was greatly appreciated, and the announcement of Mr. Van ■Heck's first appearance as musical conductor had doubtless considerable effect in attracting a large audience. •■'The Sea Eternal" is a forceful drama in which there are several exciting scenes and thrilling rescues from the sea. The detective drama, "Van Xostnui's '.Diamonds," is well presented, and ends in the usual discomfiture of the thieves. The instalment of the (turnout (iraphic is very interesting, and the humorous films ure true to name. Those who have not heard Van Ileck should do so to-night.

King will again address the electors tonight, to reply to .Mr. KirkTrood's second address. In Messrs W. M. Bayly and G'o.'s store is to be seen a magnificent specimen of a Oarton Improved Purple-top Mammoth swede, weighing 2-i%lbs, and grown hv Mr. .John Gibson, of Monmouth road, from seed and Bpceial manure obtained' from this reliable house.
