ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Br Telegraph—l'resa Association. Christchurch, Saturday. Mrs. Frizzel, aged 71 years, wife of a retired farmer at Rangiora, attempted to commit suicide early this morning by cutting her throat. She was conveyed to the Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition. BURGLARS AT A POST OFFICE. Christchurch, Saturday. Burglars entered the post oflice at Whakamatau, near Springfield, and burst the safe with explosives last night. The building was damaged, but it is not known if any money-was taken. THE JEWEL BURGLARY. Christchurch, April 11. Two men were arrested yesterday on a charge of vagrancy. They will be charged with the burglarly at Tucker's jewellery shop on Wednesday. SOCIETY Oh' FRIENDS. Auckland, Saturday Night. The Society of Friends held their annual gathering this morning with a good attendance of North Island Friends, and a few from South. Delegates were welcomed from th« South and also from Australia, and letters were read from Great Britain and Australia, concerning tho current events as affecting the Society. The New Zealand branch of the Society was authoritatively affiliated with the headquarters in London.
