A SURGICAL MARVEL. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright Received 12, 5.5 p.m. New York, April 10. Dr. Alexis Carrel, described his latest surgical experiments before the Amencan Surgical Association. He clamped the pedicle of the heart, stopped the circulation for three minutes, and performed a rapid operation upon the aortic (the great artery) and allowed circulation to resume. The operation was successful. It is thought an operation of a similar character on human beings is quite possible as a cure for valvular diseases.

THE NAVY POLICE. Received 12, 5.5* p.m. London, April 11. The experiment of abolishing ship's police on the battle cruiser Queen Mary has proved successful, and will now be extended throughout the whole navy.

COLLISION AT SEA. New York, April 10. The American steamer Cromyell rammed and sank the Norwegian barque Orellan off Barnegat Bay, New Jersey. Two sailors and the captain were lost, but twelve survivors were rescued.

A SHOWGROUND PANIC. Sydney, April 11. A horse bolted on the showgrounds panic. Twelve persons were injured. Yesterday's attendance was 94,000. Eroni Brothers' Landlock broke the high jump record, clearing seven feet.

COTTON FIRES. Bombay, April 10. Troops aro guarding the cotton warehouses. There have been further outbreaks, making 26 fires in seventeen days, of which two destroyed £ .80,000 worth of cotton. WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY. Sydney, April 11. Charles Frolimann, the well-known theatrical authority, predicts that the moat successful play of the future will Have a succession of scenes so quickly completed that it will resemble a cinema play. He claims the play will have the movement of the pictures plus the real people and voices.
