AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE.
THOROUGHLY IX EARNEST. By Cable—Press Assoc, .lion—Copyright Received 13, 1 a.m. London, April 12. Sir Gcorgeßeid, interviewed, said that Japan's and Germany's political industrial, naval and military development made Australians grasp the importance of Imperial defence. Australians were thoroughly in earnest regarding naval and military projects. The American tariff changes had already produced a substantial increase in Australia's exports. Although there was a bitter variance between Orangemen and Catholicß, the greater majority of Australians wore anxious that the granting of Home Rule should not precipitate civil war.
