CANTERBURY WHEAT.

REDUCED CROP NEST YEAR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Saturday Night. Mr. .Tohn Talbot, chairman of the Timaru branch of the Farmers' Union, at the annual meeting to-day in the review of the year's work, expressed the opinion that the wheat grown in this district next year would show a reduction. Prices do not promise to be good. The cost of* production was increasing, threshing now being paid for by the hour, and the cost had increased from S'/ud to "id, lid, and even to 9(1 a bushel. The late rains had prevented the preparation of the land, and the higher prices for wool and fat slock would tend to increased attention to sheep. The blade-shearing classes at the Technical School had turned out a number of com- ' potent shearers, and greater success was expected for future .seasons. Referring . to the wharf strikes, Mr. Talbot said that fortunately this had been got over ' at Timaru before the general strike commenced. lie feared the bitter feelings engendered would all'ect the general election. As many men went out from a sense of loyalty, hind words should h cease, as it win better lo forgive and e forget. Mr. Talbot was re-elected president.
