FIRES.

HAW ERA OFFICES GUTTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hawera, Sunday. The offices of J. E. Roe, architect, situated in a two-storey building, were gutted by fire yesterday afternoon. Nothing in the offices was insured, and Roe is a heavy loser, as valuable records worth many pounds have been destroyed. J. C. Gillett, draner, who occupied the premises underneath, had his stock damaged by water. The building was owned by D. Barry, and was insured for £IOOO in the Commercial Union office and Gillett's stock for £ISOO in the State office and £OSO in the Commercial Union.

GRAIN STOKE BURNED. Blenheim, Monday. On Saturday afternoon a fire destroyed Corry's grain store. The building, which was built for the Farmers' Cooperative Company at a cost of £2OOO, was totally demolished. It is understood that 30,000 bags of barley were destroyed. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr. Corry, at the time, was at a conference of barley growers and merchants. Altogether 3000 tons of stuff were destroyed. The insurances were £16,000 on the stock, £1750 on the building and £250 on tho machinery. A paddock of flax fibre half-a-mile away was fired by sparks and two tons destroyed. Wemyss' timber yart also caught fire, but the damage was very slight. WELLINGTON OUTBREAKS. Wellington, Monday. Last nitrht a fire occurred in a nineroomed dwelling and stationer's shon in Willis street, occupied by Ceo. V. Woodward. The shop and content? were very badly damaged. The stock was insured for £4OO in the Royal Exchange office, and the contents of the dwelling for £IOO. The building was insured for £4OO in the Commercial Union. A fire partially destroyed some stored furniture in a building in Blair Street. The fire is supposed to have been caused by rats, as partly-eaten matches were found strewn about.
