The various committees arc displaying ercat enthusiasm in raisine funds for the sunnort of their candidates.
On Saturday night a band in burlesque attire, formed by members of the East End Committee, beaded by the XI. Regiment Band, in uniform,"-araded the streets behind the famous donkeys, and did good business.
The Agricultural Society is taking lithe candidature of "the country girl" strongly, and at a meeting cm Siifirrtftrv it was decided to organise i nterl.a'uments in all parts of the disi icf on her behalf. .Support is to h- accorded to this candidate at ftpmiakc. cvl the natives of the di-tr'ct have also promised to help. The Operatic Society will organise 0:i----tertainments at which their candidate, Miss Veta Gilbert., will sing. The first count of votes took place on Saturday. Miss Veta Gilbert had a substantial lead for the, first place. Mis? Eileen McCuire herns second. Miss Annie Hawke third. Miss Ulnrv Harrison fourth, and Miss Madge Honrichs fifth.
The East End Committee is holdin" a vieiu] and dance on Thursday, in the interests of their Carnival Queen candidate. The committee wishes to thank the Imnd and the public (or jeneroiis assistance in the performance of Ratnrday night, by which their candidate benefited materially, as well a* Mr Ceo.
