ROMANCE OF THE PULPIT.
Something like a sensation has Wen caused in Welsh religious circles by the news that J)r. Cynddylan Jones, one of the pillars of.Nonconformity, anil one of the most eloquent men in the Welsh pulpit, has been married to n bride of 24. Dr. Jones is himself a veteran of 7;), and this is his third matrimonial venture. It transpires that the. wedding took place quietly at Liverpool on December 10, the bride Win;; Miss May Gertrude James, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram James, of Park Street, Cwmcarn, Monmouthshire. Mr. James is an ex-consta-ble of the Monmouthshire Constabulary, and now occupies the "'sition of agent at the Abcrcr.rn Colliery of tin; Kbbw Vale Company. He is one of the wardens at Cwmcarn Church, and his family are members of the Church of England. Dr. and Mrs. Cynddylan Jones appear to have made each other's acnuaiiitance in North Wales, as the latter had been staying for a considerable C.mc with her mother's iiik-Ic, the Rev. Thomas James, Vicar of l.lan lilunigel. Cerr:g-.V-Dniidi-on. Dr. Jones is not known personally to either of his bride's parents, who do not know that they have ever seen him. The lady appears to have <;one to Liverpool from the vic.nge of her mother's uncle for the purpose of the wedding. The bride's parents were aware that Dr. Jones and their daughter had known each other for a considerable time nrcviously. though they had no anterior knowledge thai, matters had matured to the. extent nf a contemplated marriage. Everybody who knows the bride rejoices in the knowledge that she is a lady well calculated to make Dr. Cvuddylan Jones a good wife and an eminently suitable helpmeet. Tic rev. gentleman was for some years minister al Hertford Chanel. Ijondon, where Oor»e Macdonahl. the novelist. Winterbothani. an Under-Secre-tary of Stale, and other brilliant men gathered to hear him. A distinctive feature nf Dr. Jones's mind was his love for the Anglican liturgy ami his broad-mind-ed views nn religion; affairs. He is an ex-Moderator of the Oeneral Assembly of the Calvinistie Methodists for the whole of Wales.
