The Council of Conciliation had before it a dispute in which the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Laborers' Union sought to obtain hours, wages and working conditions in resnect of the men employed on threshing mills. After some discussion of the demands, the dispute was referred to the Court of Arbitration. WHAT WINTER HOLDS FOR THE WORKERS. Wellington, Last Night. Labor leaders look with troubled eyes at the approach of winter, fearing that serious hardship will be the lot of many along the waterfrsst. A reporter was informed to-dav that there are about COO men in excess of requirements. "The export trade in wool is slackening," remarked an official, "and men hitherto working in the. wool stores are now swelling the 'ist of those seeking employment on the waterfront." Tt is stated that the Watersidcrs' Union is doing all that is possible to secur? employment for the men now out.
