Mr. Ackland, in reply to Mr. Kinloch Cooke, said he was not aware that the Commonwealth was prepared to entertain a suggestion to acquire the French rights in the New Hebrides by purchase or exchange The British" Government did not intend to purchase or agree to surrender any territory elsewhere by way of exchange.
